Looking for a heart specialist at Himalayan Hospital, Jolly Grant? Most websites will just give you three names and a “book now” button. That isn’t much help when you’re worried about chest pain, a parent’s heart report, or a child’s heart condition.

So here’s everything in one place: who the heart doctors are, which doctor sits on which day, how to book online, what heart treatments the hospital does, what to do in an emergency, and how to get there. We’ve taken it from the hospital’s official website, its OPD schedule and booking portal, and news reports about its heart team.

This is visitor information, not medical advice. If someone has chest pain, breathlessness or collapses, don’t search online. Call 112 or Himalayan Hospital Emergency on 0135 2471225 right away.

Heart attack warning signs: read this first

If you’re here because someone is unwell right now, this matters more than anything else on the page. Common warning signs of a heart attack include:

  • pain, pressure or tightness in the chest, often lasting more than a few minutes
  • pain spreading to the arm, shoulder, jaw, neck or back
  • breathlessness, sudden sweating, nausea or feeling faint
  • in women, older people and people with diabetes, the signs can be milder or unusual, like only tiredness, breathlessness or stomach discomfort

What to do:

  1. Call 112 or the hospital emergency on 0135 2471225 immediately.
  2. Don’t let the patient drive. Use an ambulance (Himalayan Hospital ambulance: 0135 2471100) or have someone else drive.
  3. Go straight to the Emergency department, not the OPD. Emergency works 24 hours, every day.
  4. Take any old ECGs, heart reports and the list of medicines with you if you can grab them quickly. Don’t waste time looking.

With heart attacks, every minute counts. It’s always better to go and be told it’s nothing serious.

The two heart departments, explained simply

People often get confused between a “heart specialist” and a “heart surgeon”. At Himalayan Hospital, they’re two different departments.

Cardiology: the heart medicine doctors

Cardiologists diagnose heart problems and treat them with medicines and with procedures done through a thin tube (catheter), usually from the wrist or groin, without opening the chest. The hospital’s cardiology page lists:

  • angioplasty and stents to open blocked heart arteries
  • pacemaker and other device implantation
  • defibrillation (electric shock to restore heart rhythm)
  • clot dissolving (thrombolytic) treatment
  • valve repair or replacement

In May 2024, the cardiology team reported doing a TAVI procedure on an 80 year old patient. TAVI replaces a narrowed aortic valve through a catheter, without open heart surgery, which can be an option for older patients who can’t handle a big operation.

See a cardiologist first if you have chest pain, breathlessness on walking, palpitations, high blood pressure that won’t come down, an abnormal ECG or echo report, or a family history of heart disease. The cardiologist will decide whether you need medicines, a procedure, or a surgeon.

Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS): the heart surgeons

This team does operations on the heart, lungs and major blood vessels. The hospital’s CTVS page lists:

  • bypass surgery (CABG) for blocked heart arteries
  • valve repair and replacement, including aortic and mitral valves, and the Bentall operation
  • surgery for heart defects in children, such as ASD and VSD closure (holes in the heart) and Tetralogy of Fallot repair
  • vascular surgery like carotid artery surgery and aneurysm repair
  • chest and lung surgery, including keyhole surgery (VATS)

Some real cases the hospital has shared:

  • September 2023: a 4 year old girl from Kedarnath with a rare heart defect called a Gerbode shunt had a 4 hour surgery led by Dr. Bhawna Singh. The hospital says it was done free under Ayushman Bharat.
  • October 2025: cardiac surgeon Dr. Akshay Chauhan replaced both heart valves of a patient from Tehri in a six hour operation, also under Ayushman Bharat, according to the hospital.

Heart specialists and their OPD days

“Who is the best heart doctor at Himalayan Hospital?”

We get this question a lot. Honestly, we don’t rank doctors, and you should be careful with sites that do. A “top 3” list based on online ratings tells you very little about who is right for your problem.

A better way to decide:

  • Not sure what’s wrong? See any cardiologist on the day that suits you. All three are part of the same department and can refer you within the team.
  • Already advised surgery (bypass, valve, child’s heart defect)? Book the CTVS OPD.
  • Follow up after a procedure? Try to see the same doctor who treated you, using the days above.

How to book a heart specialist appointment online

Himalayan Hospital has its own booking portal, and Cardiology is on it. Based on the hospital’s official booking guide:

  1. Open appointment.himalayanhospital.org:214
  2. Hospital name is already set to Himalayan Hospital.
  3. Under Select Speciality, choose CARDIOLOGY.
  4. Pick the general OPD option under Select Doctor.
  5. Choose the date and an open time slot, then press Next. Match the date to the doctor’s day from the table above if you want someone specific.
  6. Patient details: returning patients click OLD Patient and enter their registered mobile number or UHID. First time patients click NEW Patient and fill in name, date of birth, mobile, email, address, state and city.
  7. Email is compulsory.
  8. Tick the terms box and press Submit.
  9. Pay online by card, net banking, wallet or UPI. The hospital’s guide shows a sample consultation fee of ₹300; check the current fee on screen.
  10. Wait for the invoice, then download it or take a screenshot.
  11. Reach the hospital 15 minutes early.

Booking rules you should know

  • Slots open every Saturday at 10:00 AM, and only for the next seven days. Cardiology is busy, so try to book right at 10 AM.
  • Bookings are department specific, not doctor specific. You’re booking the cardiology OPD on that date.
  • Heart surgery (CTVS) wasn’t in the online speciality list when we checked, so book that at the registration counter or call reception.
  • For booking problems, email appointment_hh@srhu.edu.in.

Prefer to walk in?

That’s fine too. Come during OPD hours, register at the counter with the patient’s ID, and you’ll be sent to the cardiology OPD. Arrive early, as morning queues are the longest.

What to carry for a heart consultation

  • photo ID for the patient and the attendant
  • all old ECGs (the actual paper strips, not just photos), echo reports, TMT, Holter and angiography reports or CDs
  • recent blood reports, especially sugar, cholesterol and kidney function
  • a written list of every medicine with doses, including blood thinners
  • your BP and sugar readings if you check them at home
  • discharge summaries from any previous hospital stay
  • Ayushman, CGHS or insurance card and any referral letter
  • your online booking invoice, if you booked

Tip: write down your symptoms before the visit. When did the pain start, how long does it last, what makes it better or worse? Doctors get much more from a clear answer than from “it hurts sometimes”.

Tests your doctor may ask for

Depending on your symptoms, the cardiologist may order tests such as an ECG, echocardiography (heart ultrasound), a treadmill test (TMT), blood tests or, if needed, an angiography. Some can be done the same day and some need a separate appointment. Ask at the OPD before you leave, so you don’t have to make an extra trip.

Ayushman Bharat, CGHS and costs

The hospital describes itself as Ayushman certified, and both heart cases mentioned above were treated free under Ayushman Bharat, according to the hospital. Public listings also show it as CGHS empanelled.

Heart procedures can be expensive, so:

  • visit the scheme or insurance desk on your first visit
  • ask what documents and approvals are needed before angioplasty or surgery
  • for anything not covered, ask the billing desk for a written estimate

No website can tell you a reliable price for an angioplasty or bypass. It depends on your condition, the number of stents, the type of valve and the length of stay.
